Taking care of your operation wound

In order to avoid infection and to obtain the best cosmetic result after your operation, please follow this advice to take care of your operation wound:

  • The local anesthesia will last approx. 1 to 4 hours. Afterwards you may experience light to moderate pain in the wound. In most cases it will be sufficient to manage the pain by taking
    • 1 gram of Panodil max. 4 times per day
  • Blue-yellow discoloration can appear on the skin around the wound. It will disappear after approx. 1 week.
  • If the bandages get wet, they need to be removed, as wet bandages can provide a growth environment for bacteria. If it is necessary to remove the bandages, they can be replaced with a normal plaster.
  • Remove the bandages at home 2 days after the operation. You may shower afterwards, but you should avoid swimming pools. After removal of the bandages, the wound does not need to be covered, unless there is a risk of exposure to dust or dirt.
  • You should avoid exposing the wound to sun or solarium during the first 3 months.
  • When you are out in the sun, we recommend that you protect the wound with a plaster or sun cream (factor 20 as a minimum)
  • Sutures will normally be removed 5 to 10 days after the operation. If biopsies were taken for examination, you will be informed of the result simultaneously.
